RECYCLED MATERIALS

THAT IS OUR NATURE AND THE REASON
FOR OUR EXISTENCE

AGRICULTURAL WASTE

Natural, innovative and sustainable. Our Colorcycle project dyes garments in the tones of nature. A way to transform inedible agricultural waste into a much less polluting dye than the synthetic alternative and with the same properties.

FISHING NETS

Redcycle is a project carried out in cooperation with aquafil involving the collection and recycling of disused fishing nets to give them a new life by turning them into sustainable garments.

PLASTIC BOTTLES

SEACYCLE is a project that contributes to the cleaning of the oceans by collecting plastic waste from the Basque coast and turning it into technological fabric for the manufacture of technical garments.

RECYCLED DOWN

Since 2013, all our down is recycled NEOKDUN from products (quilts, pillows, etc.) whose life cycle is over.

COFFEE GROUNDS

The natural and biodegradable S-Café treatment uses coffee grounds to create an antibacterial treatment that keeps garments odour-free.

WOOL

We use recycled wool from garments whose life cycle is over. Wool that has kept its special qualities, with great heat capacity.

CARPETS

Using recycled nylon from disused carpets, which we mix with nylon from fishing nets, we create a new 100% recycled fabric to manufacture garments.

PFC FREE

Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) are highly pollutant synthetic compounds with properties useful for making waterproof, non-stick and flame-retardant materials, including mountainwear. All our clothing is PFC FREE. That means that its repellent outer treatments, entirely effective, do not contain anything harmful to the environment.

RECYCLED DOWN

Ternua was the world’s first outdoor textiles brand to use Neokdun®, a type of environmentally-friendly recycled feather, which is 100% recycled. Natural and biodegradable, Neokdun® is obtained by recycling end products such as bedclothes and clothing that have reached the end of their useful life. Recycling this material guarantees excellent performance in warmth, transpirability, lightness, cleanliness and filling power.

ORGANIC COTTON

True to our commitment to sustainability, we have chosen organic cotton, because conventional cotton cultivation involves pesticides and insecticides that cause serious environmental problems. Organic cotton, however, is key to the optimum, sustainable use of natural resources.

BLUESIGN

BLUESIGN is a holistic system which provides sustainable process and manufacturing solutions for industry and brands. Founded in Switzerland in the year 2000, it is the sector’s most demanding standard for regulation of harmful chemical products. It encompasses the whole process, from the start of the supply chain to the finished product. The bluesign® system promotes the use of the most advanced technologies to detect the presence of chemical products in waste water and the air.

RECYCLED POLYESTER & NYLON

We create high-performance technical clothing by giving industrial waste and post-consumer material a new life. We use plastic bottles from plastic household recycling to create polyester textiles, and collect carpets to reuse the nylon. We also gather plastic from the sea and old fishing nets. All this lets us continue to obtain high quality, highly resistant polyester and nylon for our recycled and sustainable collections.

BIODEGRADABLE ANTIBACTERIALS

Sustainable innovation is Ternua’s answer to maintaining the comfort and effectiveness of our garments. Thus, our antibacterial treatments, carried out with biodegradable material, guarantee natural, long-lasting protection which is free from chemicals for thread and fabric. A natural, innovative way to prevent bad odours and protect from UV light.
