A MOUNTAIN UNDER THE SEA

Un monte sottomarino è una montagna che si innalza dal fondo dell'oceano ma non arriva a sporgere dal livello del mare. Sono costituiti da vulcani estinti, che emergono bruscamente e di solito si trovano sul fondo marino tra 1.000 e 4.000 metri di profondità. Gli oceanografi definiscono i monti sottomarini come tratti indipendenti che si innalzano per almeno 1.000 metri sopra il rilievo oceanico.
